The Jurassic coast provides spectacular exposures of Triassic-Cretaceous sediments, which include outcropping examples of source rocks and reservoirs of the Wych Farm oilfield, including a number of fossil oil seeps. The course will provide an introduction to the stratigraphy and facies of the siliciclastic and carbonate sediments, and instruction in field logging and sampling techniques appropriate to the various sediment types present.

The course will include lectures on the evolution and development of the Wessex Basin oilfield.

Tuesday Nov. 20th
Morning, look at Sherwood Sandstone, fluvial Triassic reservoir, at Budleigh and Sidmouth. Logging exercise.
Lunch
Afternoon, Blue Lias, early Jurassic marine source rock. Chalk at Beer.
Stay the Riviera Sidmouth. Evening lecture on Wessex Basin petroleum geology.

Wednesday Nov. 21st
Check out. Drive to West Bay, via Charmouth. See Bridport Sand, marine Jurassic sand, for logging exercise.
